In fact, going for a kayaking expedition with a friend, family member or even your pet can greatly enhance the experience as it is an enjoyable way to pass time and bond while paddling or waiting for a bite. But this does not mean that you can take any tandem kayak on your trip; you need a boat that will not only provide enough room for two paddlers and their gear, but also enough stability and maneuverability to ensure an incident free kayaking trip.

The AIRHEAD AHTK2 Montana Performance Kayak is a tandem inflatable kayak specifically designed to accommodate 2 paddlers on lakes and moderate white water. Measuring 12 feet in length and weighing just 36.3 pounds, this kayak provides the perfect balance between portability and performance among the best tandem kayaks. Inflatable kayaks are ideal for vacationing, camping and exploring remote areas thanks to their light weight and easy of storage. You no longer have to drive around with a kayak on your rooftop since this kayak can be easily fitted into a suitcase, duffel bag or the trunk of your car.

Portable

While portability is probably the main reason people choose inflatable kayaks, many others have reservations about them thanks to the perception that they are not as durable as rigid canoes. However, the AIRHEAD 2 person Montana Performance Kayak features heavy-gauge, semi-rigid PVC construction. The outer shell is also covered with water and UV resistant coatings so durability isn’t an issue. The boat is supported by a tubular I-beam floor that provides buoyancy, tracking, comfort and stability.

While this outer shell is more of a scuff resistant layer than a water proof barrier, the kayak’s high quality nylon fabric wielded seams ensure that only a small amount of water gets in between the air chambers and the harder outer shell. However, draining the water is easy thanks to the threaded drain hole that runs through the hull.

The kayak’s bow and sterns were fixed with sturdy D-rings to make it easier for you to secure your gear. Moreover, a stretch net is also provided in the bow for when you need extra storage. Like the rest of the kayak, the seats are also inflatable and are conveniently centered inside the kayak for better stability. Each seat features an adjustable support bracket that lets you adjust the incline for better comfort while a mesh pocket offer each paddler a handy way of storing items within easy reach. The sides of the boat adjacent to each seat are fitted with neoprene Elbow guards for better comfort.

Versatile

The AIRHEAD Montana Performance Kayak is surprisingly responsive and maneuverable for an inflatable tandem thanks to the four bottom fins that provide superior tracking while generating very little drag.

This is definitely no pool toy. It features three air chambers that are all completely enclosed by rugged 840-Denier Nylon that can hold pressure all day while the outer layer is made of high-visibility orange PVC for extra safety on the water. What’s more, inflating the chambers only takes a couple of minutes even when using a hand pump and deflates in seconds when you want to stow it away.
